Background: The P8-A Poseidon Aircraft

The Navy required a durable, Berry-compliant cover that:

  • Withstands harsh environmental conditions
  • Prevents any damage to sensitive sensors or aircraft surfaces
  • Supports easy maintenance and operation in tight working areas

Ehmke was selected to develop a customized solution in partnership with an engineering firm.

Project Challenges

The project posed several key challenges:

  • The cover had to be lightweight, quickly deployable, and resistant to extreme weather
  • Materials needed to be durable yet non-abrasive to avoid damaging sensitive components
  • The design had to accommodate precise tolerances in a restricted space while maintaining reusability

Ehmke met the Navy’s specifications with a multi-layered textile system engineered for durability, performance, and flexibility.
